A 25-year-old presents with a painful acute ulcer arising at the site of a trivial injury.

Pyoderma gangrenosum

Predisposing factors include inflammatory bowel disease and haematological malignancy. The patient illustrated suffered from Crohn's disease.

The ulcers tend to develop rapidly and are frequently extremely painful. An overhanging bluish ragged edge to a necrotic wound is characteristic.
